His ex-wife says he would “never” sexually assault a woman after the Brazilian World Cup star was arrested over a nightclub sex attack.
The ex-wife of Brazilian international Dani Alves has spoken out following his arrest and detention for a nightclub bathroom sex attack.
After being detained for an alleged sexual assault at the city’s Sutton nightclub last month, the former Barcelona star has spent the last three nights sleeping at the Brians 1 jail outside of Barcelona.
He was allegedly accused of raping and slapping a woman in a nightclub bathroom.
Officials from the court who have confirmed that the footballer is being looked into for alleged sexual assault have not made clear the specifics of the accusations.
Dana Dinorah, the ex-wife of Alves, said: “I’m still in shock. It seems like a nightmare, and it’s not happening.
In an interview with a Spanish TV program, the Brazilian-based businesswoman insisted that she thought the father of their two children was innocent and said: “Dani would never ever do this.”
“I say this because I’ve known him for 22 years and was married to him for ten.”
“This has been a shock for me and for my children.”
“I have two teenage children who are suffering.”
Dana continued, “Dani asked his lawyer to call me so I could take care of his most urgent matters,” in an interview with the Fiesta program on the Telecinco station in Spain.
“I found out he was in prison because of that phone call he asked his lawyer to make to me.”
I’ve not had access to Dani and haven’t been able to speak to him on the phone. His lawyer says he’s sad but okay. She’s the only one who has been able to see him.
“I’m here for whatever I can do to help him.”
Dana spoke after the footballer’s current spouse, Spanish model Joana Sanz, declared that the death of her mother and the imprisonment of her husband had taken away the “two pillars of my life.”
Joana, who married Alves in Formentera off Ibiza in 2017, wrote: “I ask the media who are outside my house to please respect my privacy at this moment.”
“My mother died a week ago, and I have only just begun to accept that she is no longer with me for me to be tormented by my husband’s situation.”
“I have lost the only two pillars in my life.”
The former Barcelona defender was detained after flying to Spain last week following the passing of his mother-in-law.
He has since been fired by the Mexican club UNAM Pumas after it was revealed he had been remanded in custody by a judge over the sexual assault allegations.
Prior to the rape accusation, Alves was charged with putting his hands down a woman’s underwear in a nightclub restroom.
Overnight, Spanish media reported that the footballer had requested his defence attorney’s permission to have the judge who sentenced him to prison while an investigation is an ongoing question him again under oath.
This is so he could clarify any reported discrepancies in statements he has made both inside and outside court about the allegations before and after his arrest.
Even though he admitted being at the nightclub where the alleged incident took place, he claimed on a TV program before being arrested that he had never met his female accuser.
The weekend Spanish media reports that he admitted to having “consensual sex” with the woman after being informed that CCTV footage and eyewitnesses refuted his TV claims that he had never met his alleged victim.
Until his attorney can convince judges that Alves is not a flight risk and should be released after posting bail, Alves is anticipated to stay at Brians 1 for at least the upcoming few weeks.
