Albinism is a type of disorder varying in severity. They are all caused by a reduction or absence of the pigment melanin, often causing white skin, light hair, and vision problems. On Monday, the organization in charge of albinos right Nigeria (The Albino Foundation in Nigeria) says it is moving towards stopping the discrimination against Albinos in Nigeria.

Speaking with News Agency of Nigeria while commemorating the international albinism day, its president said the International Albinism Awareness Day celebration is targeted at drawing attention to states and members of the public on the challenges faced by persons with albinism.

He further said.

“The celebration is as a result of the widespread discrimination, stigmatization and dehumanization persons with albinism face.

“As well as the human right abuse and brutal killings around the world, especially in Africa,’’

The president of the association has said the celebration is as a result of the follow up of 69th session of the United Nations General assembly declaration on December 14th 2014. The declaration said that the celebration should hold June 13.

He said in celebrating the day, people with albinism would attend a workshop organized by the association where people with health challenges related to albinism will get solution to their problems and also get educated them on how to overcome albinism health challenge s.

In March 2017 Mr Jake Epelle concluded a milestone meeting with all the CMDs in Nigeria on sustaining the free skin cancer treatment; Hon Minister of State for Health Dr  Osagie Ehanire was in attendance. The Albino Foundation also run some projects such as Sunscreen, ski n cancer Trust fund and education Trust Fund.
