8 dead as Tanker, Container Collides on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
According to Channels TV, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, confirmed the accident.
He said the accident occurred at Onigari Village, close to the Foursquare Gospel Church camp at Ajebo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Ainbiyi added: “the tanker carrying 33,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit traveling was to Ibadan while the container-laden truck was coming from Ibadan when the accident occurred.
“The accident occurred at a point where the traffic had been diverted to a single lane.
“Eight persons have been confirmed dead in the inferno, they were burnt beyond recognition. The victims were those passengers in a container attached to the truck.”
He also mentioned that the operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), State Fire Service and the Nigeria Police were also at the scene to manage the traffic and to also remove the burnt bodies and vehicles from the road.
