CAS LAY FOUNDATION FOR A ULTRA MODERN MAMMY MARKET
IN LAGOS

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar has, as part of his drive to provide better mammy market infrastructural facilities in Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Bases around the country, laid the foundation for an ultra-modern mammy market in Lagos to satisfy the socio-economic needs of the families of personnel, for beneficiaries from the host communities of the Base and other residents of Lagos at large.

The CAS who was represented by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command (AOC LC), Air Vice Marshall IJ Yahaya at the groundbreaking/foundation laying ceremony which held on the site of the project at Sam Ethnan Airforce Base said the construction of the 400 lock-up shops, designed in conformity with NAF culture of excellence, “will ensure the availability of basic and affordable economic products and services for personnel families, reassuring personnel of the well-being of
their families, as they leave them at home and move from one place to another to defend our fatherland”.

The CAS expressed satisfaction that the market will create a standard avenue for personnel families and civilian counterparts to engage in business activities in the base without having to constantly venture out to town for services and support, which may either be more expensive.

The Managing Director/CEO of Nigerian Air force Properties Limited (NAFPROP), Air Commodore Musa Tanko who gave the welcome address of the event said the construction of the mammy market is part of the current administration’s drive to improve personnel welfare by the provision of quality infrastructural development to its personnel. He stated that the establishment of the market is a practical demonstration of the commitment of NAF to its ethos to reinforce a culture of self-reliance and prudent management of resources.

AIR Commodore Tanko reiterated that NAFPROP is the arm of the NAF in charge of the project. He said NAFPROP has a crop of professionals who are empowered to engage in business facility as managers for NAF assets and properties, enter into commercial arrangements for property development as well as engage in all manufacturing, importation, distribution and deal on different kinds of building materials for the benefit of NAF and the general public.

Present at the foundation laying ceremony were Board Members of NAFPROP LTD, senior officers both serving and retired Members of Nigerian Air force Officers and Airmen Wives Associations respectively, traditional rulers from host communities of Bisam, Shogunle, Mafoluku and Ladipo areas of Oshodi Metropolis and others.

There was a traditional dance display by the Oduduwa Art of Africa dance Troupe from Lagos and the Sharo Dance Troupe from Kaduna to entertain the guests as the CAS lay the foundation of the ultra-modern mammy to serve personnel and families of SAEB and their host communities.
