Single parents, just like it sounds are parents that are alone; they are faced with issues that are meant to be solved by two people. A lot of things can lead to a person becoming a single parent like rape, loss of one’s partner, divorce, amongst other reasons.  Some of the challenges single parents encounter are below;

 

Financial stress

When there are two parents in a family, it becomes easy to combine resources and meet the needs of the family but a single parent has to bear the weight of making ends meet entirely on their own. There can be a bit of struggle on having enough money to pay the family’s bill.

 

Household tasks

single parents are overloaded with various house chores and tasks. A single parent works to earn income, come back home to different household tasks and to children that need attention all alone.  This will eventually lead to depression.

 

Dealing with children’s emotions

Apart from the emotional needs of the single parent, they still have to deal with the emotional needs of their children. Dealing with this will lead to anxiety and depression as the single parent may neglect her own needs.

 

Pressure from other parents

Single parents may feel helpless when their children refer to other parents that are together. Some children become curious when they see other parents showering love on their children together. These children may start asking questions that can re-open the old wounds of their single parents.

 

Struggling with family challenges

Single parents deal with family challenges alone except they surround themselves with family and friends that will always give them the right support at this point in time.
