FAMILY MEMBERS ARRESTED BY EFCC FOR OPERATING AS GHOST WORKERS

Esther onakaogu, a federal civil servant has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly manipulating the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System a system through which federal government operates to pay her family members who operate as ghost workers.

Esther was accused of adding two names fo her siblings Ebenuwa Chinazo and Onukaogu Joshua to IPPIS when she was working with a consulting firm. She was arraigned with her siblings at the FCT High Court in Wuse Abuja on Tuesday 6th June 2017 on 13 counts charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretense.

EFCC reported that she included her name and the name of two of her siblings into the database of IPPIS as the staff of Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Works for the purpose of receiving a salary from the Federal Government.

They are alleged to have collected salaries worth #9m from the ministries as ghost workers for the past three years.

After many deliberations in court, the judge granted each defendant bail of #5m each, they are to be remanded In EFCC custody until the bail terms are met fully. The matter was adjourned till September 21, 2017, for hearing.
