The family of a pregnant woman identified as Mrs Asabe Obaje in Odogomu in Ankpa local government of Kogi state have demanded justice over the murder and alleged lackadaisical attitude of the police.
The murder which was said to have taken place on July 12 had led to the arrest of some three people.
According to the spokesman for the family, Mr Paul Obaje, the late pregnant woman was said to have been returning to her Ofano village at about 6pm on the fateful day that she was gruesomely murdered. He further added that the late mother of six was waylaid and butchered into parts.
Obaje said the woman who was pregnant with twins died instantly with the unborn babies in her. He had described the murder as being inhumane and barbaric.
After naming the suspect to include one Oko Momoh, Abraham Abdul and Hassan Ismaila, Obaje further said the Police’s reaction to the case wasn’t pleasing as they also detained members of the Obaje family namely; Ismaila Yakubu, Abdullahi Yakubu, Haliru Yakubu, Idris Usman and Yusuf Usman were detained for three days and asked to make a payment of N30,000 naira for their release.
Obaje, who was sad about the development, called on state commissioner of police to ensure justice prevails for the late woman.
Speaking of the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi Police Command, Mr Williams Aya, said that the suspects were already in the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lokoja where the investigation is ongoing.
Aya further stated that the case was a culpable homicide and that the command would ensure that justice is given as demanded by the deceased family members.
Aya finally added that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
