Five women have made an accusation that veteran journalist, Mark Halperin harrassed them sexually when he was at a top position with ABC News.

Reports say the five women shared their accounts which was initially not disclosed with CNN and others who were not victims of the alleged harassment.

“During this period, I did pursue relationships with women that I worked with, including some junior to me,” Halperin said in a statement to CNN Wednesday night. “I now understand from these accounts that my behaviour was inappropriate and caused others pain.

For that, I am deeply sorry and I apologize. Under the circumstances, I’m going to take a step back from my day-to-day work while I properly deal with this situation.”

Halperin 52, has been successful in his journalistic career with ABC News as a political journalist. He authored a book “Game Change” which became a bestseller and was eventually made into a movie which starred Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin.

The veteran political journalist presently serves as an analyst at NBC News where he makes frequent appearances on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” and is featured in Showtime’s “The Circus,” a show that chronicled the 2016 campaign cycle and the early days of the Trump presidency, and has a project in development with HBO, which, like CNN, is owned by Time Warner.

Three of the women while speaking to CNN on the matter said Halperin without consent would press an erection against their bodies while he was clothed. However, Halperin denied grabbing a woman’s breasts and pressing his genitals against the three women as they claimed.

These women worked with Halperin but never reported to him. Being at top management level at ABC News, Halperin made many decisions about political coverage at ABC News and had a voice in some critical personnel decisions. While the women have not said if he ever promised anything in exchange for sex, but suggested that he would retaliate against anyone.

Other women who wouldn’t come out to associate themselves with the incidence said they still feel embarrassed about what happened to them.
