Former Ballon D’or winner and Chelsea player, George Weah has finally emerged the president elect of Liberia after a competitive struggle for the seat of the country’s 25th president.
Weah who has emerged thrice as African footballer of the year triumphed over his 73-year-old opponent Vice President Joseph Boakai in a landslide victory in results announced in Liberia earlier today.
The Montserrado County Senator who was once named Fifa World Player expressed his appreciation to his supporters ahead the result announcement.
“I am deeply grateful to my family, my friends, and my loyal supporters who contributed to our campaign during this extremely long election season,”.
George Weah’s victory will make him replace Africa’s first female head of state, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
