As leading countries all over the world are planning to stop the use of Petrol and Diesel cars, France has decided to be among the leaders by putting an end to the use of Petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040.

The announcement was made by Hulot, a veteran environmental campaigner nominated by the new elected President Emmanuel Macron

The decision follows that of other countries like Norway that will stop sales of petrol cars in 2025, Germany and India. The major reason for the stop in the sales of diesel and petrol cars is due to the high level of pollution that comes from the use of the cars.

Volvo has mentioned the plan to stop production of petrol-only cars from 2019, with all new models to be either electric or hybrids. The group will be the first major manufacturer to electrify all its cars.

Presently, China is the largest market in the world for electric vehicles as it sold more than 500,000 in 2016.

According to Analysts, electric vehicles will displace vehicles powered by internal combustion engines quickly as there could be the production of about 150 million electric vehicles by 2040.
