A 28-year-old man, Ifeanyi Anyanwu, has been arrested by the Nigerian Police and arraigned before a Lagos magistrate’s court, Igbosere for allegedly stealing his employer’s $12,000. He was implicated by his girlfriend after giving her a sum of N700,000.
Anyanwu, who worked as an office assistant in a financial services company, is standing trial on a one-count charge of theft.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded in prison custody until October 31, 2017, for facts and sentencing.
The prosecutor, Friday Mameh said the defendant committed the alleged offence while he was working with the complainant, Mr Olalekan Salami, a financial analyst.
Mr Mameh said the incident occurred on Furo Ezimora Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The prosecutor also said Anyanwu’s girlfriend helped in aiding the arrest of the defendant.
“The defendant was arrested through the help of his girlfriend in Calabar, who had gone to withdraw the N700,000, that she deposited in her bank account.”
“The defendant’s girlfriend, after her arrest, told the Police how she came about the money, and then took the Police to the defendant’s residence in Calabar, where he was apprehended and brought to Lagos,” Mameh told the court.
