Daddy G.O as he is fondly called was born on 2nd March 1942 in Ifewara,Osun State.
He joined The Redeemed Christian Church Of God in 1973 and due to his educational background; he later became the interpreter to the founder-Late Rev.Josiah Akindayomi. He took over as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in the year 1981 after the death of the Founder –Rev.Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi.
Pastor adeboye came from a poor background to the point that his father had to sell goat in order to pay his school fees.
After the elementary school in his village in Ifewara, he proceeded to Ilesha Grammar school in 1956.
Pa Adeboye obtained BSc.in Mathematics from University of Nigeria ,Nsukka, in 1967. Masters(MSc) in Hydrodynamics and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos respectively in 1969 and 1975. He was a lecturer in University of Ilorin and University of Lagos where he rose to the position of a senior Lecturer before he resign into full-time ministry. He was ordained as a Pastor in 1975. After becoming the G.O in 1981 with few branches, Pastor Adeboye swung into action by starting Lets-go-a-fishing programme which was geared at winning more souls and Christ The Redeemers’ Friends Universal which was aimed at winning the educated elites to the church. All these later paid off as the Church experience phenomenal growth which became known to the whole world when he organized Lekki 98 tagged ‘’Divine Visitation’’ which believed to have gathered over six million people.
Today, The Redeemed Christian Church Of God(RCCG) is in more than 110 countries of the world.
