Gunmen Kill 41 traders, Bridesmaid, in Zamfara
Bandits suspected to be gunmen have killed 41 persons at Birane Village Zurmi Local Government area of Zamfara. A vehicle conveying bridesmaids and traders was intercepted at the market area and the gunmen shot sporadically at the traders.
An eyewitness, Hussaini Abdu, explained: “They arrived in large numbers and on motorbikes, intercepting and killing people who were coming or going out of the village. About 41 people were shot dead within a short period of time.”
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the state police command, Muhammad Shehu, attributed the attack to a conflict between hunters and local vigilantes’. He appealed to the locals to always give the force proactive information before time, to enable it intercept and curtail this kind of despicable facts in future. The police spokesman gave account of how a commercial motorbike rider conveying a woman and her three children were killed and his motorbike burnt, while the whereabouts of the woman and her children are still unknown.
When asked the number of causalities, he actually had this to say “You know Birane is a very remote community. I cannot tell you the actual number of the casualties till after the Deputy Commissioner, Operations, of the command comes back. He, alongside other officers are there to assess the situation and provide additional security measures.”
