One of the ways to make the new year significant for the children is to do the following :
Hold a family Thanksgiving in your living room where every member of the family recounts specific, personal reasons to thank God for, in the year gone by.
Hold a family meeting where everyone criticises what was not well done in the previous year. Let the children tell daddy and mummy what they didn’t do well in the previous year, while the parents too tell each child what they need to do better in the new year.
Talk to the children about goal setting. Let them know the significance of setting goals. Give them examples of short and long-term goals and lead them into setting their goals for the year based on previous year’s challenges and achievements.
They could write goals to cover Spiritual, Academic, Financial, Social (relationship), Domestic, Personal spheres.
These should be placed before them as they pursue each day in the year.
The children must be led to consciously know that it’s only God that has the times and seasons. Our children shall succeed this year by God.
