A middle aged woman married to two husbands told an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to dissolve the marriage between her and one of her husbands.
The woman, Modinat Mufutau told the court in Ibadan on Tuesday how she alternated between her two husbands in order to satisfy herself and get enough money to take care of the three children she had.
The woman had two children for the first husband known as Mufutau and one for another husband named Saheed.
Modinat had approached the court sitting in Ibadan to dissolve her 12-year-old relationship to one of her husbands, name Mr Ajadi Mufutau, for an alleged lack of care and maltreatment from him.
The woman who told the court that she met Mufutau in 2005, and he impregnated her without any marriage formalities or whatsoever from him.
Modinat said that at the beginning of the relationship with Mufutau, he pretended to be a nice and responsible man but later changed to maltreating her and not showing care anymore.
She said that Mufutau began maltreating her shortly after she was impregnated by him, especially when she demanded money for antenatal care.
Modinat also told the court that she left Mufutau’s house after giving birth to their first child and hooked up with another man, Saheed.
She further said that Saheed impregnated her two years later but turned to his punching bag after delivery of her second child for him.
In her words, Modinat told the court: “I could not endure the beatings from Saheed anymore and later decided to resettle down with Mufutau. I got impregnated by Mufutau for the second time, but Saheed who I have my second child for begged and pleaded with me to return to him.”
“I decided to date two of them without any problem and hindrances until they both met in my rented apartment and fought with each other.” She added
She said further: “My Lord, I have made up my mind to divorce Mufutau because he has stopped giving me money for the maintenance and care of the two children we had together”.
Mufutau, however, did not object to Modinat’s request to the court.
The man said, “Modinat is a shameless woman. I was not aware that she still dated Saheed until I met him in the apartment. She did not see the situation as bad and negative.”
He prayed the court to allow the first child be in his custody so that he could take care of the child properly and promised to support her for the care of their second child.
The President of the court, Mr Mukaila Balogun after listening to both parties involved agreed to dissolve the union of both parties.
Mr Balogun, however, had awarded the custody of the first child to Mufutau and the second child to Modinat. as put forward by both parties
The president of the court also directed Mufutau to pay N3,500 as monthly allowance for the upkeep and care maintenance of the second child and warned both parties against fomenting trouble against each other anymore.
