Sir, how much do you think COSON has impacted the music industry?
Ha, a lot. In the past, artiste used to die in penury, but today what COSON has done is to make sure that at least, our artiste can begin to earn something for their effort I mean these guys, and it takes a lot to be creative and these guys, after one or two years they just fade out and people are playing their music.

I will give you an example. Nico Mbarga, (Sweet mother, I no go forget you…) everybody plays that music till today. It is a bestseller, but I’m not sure if the family ever made the kind of royalty that you would have made if you were in abroad.

There are people in Hollywood they just do one music and they are made for life, and so that is where COSON is taking us in Nigeria.

Sir, we got to know from our studies that you had a very solid relationship with late Chief MKO Abiola. How will you define your relationship with him?

He was my father and he told everyone who cares to listen that I was his abducted son. He did what a father will do for a child. For example, I mean on my wedding, my wife was handed over to him.

That is how close we were. Everything that we did, we travelled, he thought us not to be local champions but global players and that is what we are doing today. From here straight to the airport we are going, we have to continue the journey. You can’t just sit down complaining there is no money there is no business, you have to expand your scope, you have to expand your horizon and that is it.

How has your exile affected your family?
Adversely. Because everything we ever worked for we lost. We abandoned our homes we abandoned our families we abandoned our business and we had to start all over.
