Doctor Okoh said most women in Nigeria are not aware of a lot of things that affects their lives during pregnancy and this ignorance has caused the death of so many women.

He also made it known that when some are advised on the right thing to do, they can’t afford to take these steps because they don’t have the money.

Doctor Okoh said:  “Ignorance and poverty are the major risk factors in maternal mortality because most times, these women don’t have money, they are not aware, they can’t take decisions and even when you advise them on steps to take, most times they understand but because of money they won’t take that decision but will rather go to people around them to give them support. They tend not to listen to the doctors not because they don’t what the doctor is saying is right but because they don’t have the means.”

He mentioned that for the government to put an end to maternal and child mortality, they should provide free antenatal services for pregnant women.
