Governor Rochas Okorocha has given the people of Imo state another reason to raise their eye brows at him after he renamed a street which was formerly named after Maria Assumpta avenue to Muhammadu Buhari Road.
Information gathered reveals that the road has been named after the magnificent Maria Assumpta Catholic Cathedral, Owerri and had remained like that for several decades ago before it was suddenly renamed by Governor Okorocha.
According to Vanguard reports, Assumpta Avenue, with the Zip Code 460211, stretched from the old Library Roundabout, Okigwe/Wetheral Roads, to Assumpta Cathedral, Control Post.
Although following the establishment of banks along the Assumpta avenue residents and commercial motorcyclists plying the route began referring to part of the avenue as bank road.
A bank staff who would prefer not to be mentioned said that most of the banks bear Assumpta Avenue as their official address. He added that.

“It is this Avenue that Governor Rochas Okorocha has sadly changed to Muhammadu Buhari Road”.

A resident in the area, bro Ikay who also spoke likewise said that the governor has changed the names of major roads in the state.
“Wetheral Road is now Sam Mbakwe Road, while Okigwe Road has been renamed Nnamdi Azikiwe Road”, Ikay said.
Ikay still speaking recalled that Okorocha had earlier renamed Douglas Road after the 10-year old boy, Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, who was shot dead, during the destruction of Ekeukwu Owerri market.
However, the people of Imo states have reacted to Governor Rochas naming of Assumpta street after President Buhari.
The road renamed back to Assumpta Avenue
In getting this done, some Imo youths have changed the street from Okporo Uzo Mohammadu Buhari Road back to Assumpta Avenue which it formerly was.
