Increase Minimum Wage of the People before You Increase Tax, CDHR chairman tells Lagos Gov. (Video)
The Nigerian Bar Association Ikeja branch today protested against the increment in the Land Use Charge by the Lagos State Government.
Recall that the land use charge was allegedly increased by 400 percent! The lawyers took to the streets of Lagos with their placards protesting against what they termed obnoxious and anti-people tax!
Speaking to newsmen, the president of the Committee for Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) Mr. Malachy Ugwummadu, described the policy as anti-people and dangerous to democracy. According to him, the policy cannot stand as it is totally unacceptable. He berated the governor for shying away from the protest ground, he asked why the governor would chose to send representatives to address the people instead of coming out himself. In his words “It shows the governor is shying away from the people, the same people that elected him into power.”
When asked what the next step was for the lawyers he said that “this policy is going down, and there are no two ways about it. We would act accordingly to any response given by the government after today’’
