Inmate emerges overall best post-graduate student in MBA program

An inmate of Enugu Maximum Security Prison, Chukwununso Nomeh, has graduated with a 3.80 Cumulative Point Average, emerging as the overall best post-graduate student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prisons Special Study Centres nationwide.

Mr Chukwuemeka Monday, the spokesperson for Nigeria Prison Service in Enugu made the announcement in a statement issued on Friday.

While speaking to Newsmen in Enugu, Monday noted that Nomeh, who was convicted and sentenced in 2010 was admitted for a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme, graduating with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.80.

The spokesperson likewise recalled the case of another inmate, one Theophilus Adeniyi who was a PhD student in 2014 and graduated as the overall best student in one of Nigeria’s universities.

The Desk Officer of Enugu Study Centre, CSP Kelvin Iloafonsi, also noted that some two other inmates likewise graduated from NOUN post-graduate school.

He further added that one of the two was later released.

The Controller of Prison in the state, Ndubuisi Ogbodo, therefore called on inmates to enrol the transformation agenda of the Controller of Prison, Ja’afaru Ahmed, calling on the public to embrace ex-convicts as reformed citizens of the country. He added that continuous rejection of ex-convicts could lead to perpetrating other criminal act.
