Insurgency: Federal Government Distributes food items to over 40,000 families

Following the devasting effect of insurgency in the north, the Federal Government on Wednesday has fulfilled its promise as it began the distribution of assorted food items to over 40,000 families.

The Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Mustapha Maihaja who flagged off the distribution, through Mr. Slaku Lugard, a representative from the federal government food distribution in Adamawa said the scheme was instituted to alleviate the hardship being experienced by the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) host communities.

Maihaja said, “the development is part of Federal Government’s Door to Door Food intervention Scheme to the IDPs host communities in Adamawa,’’

Also speaking, NEMA Coordinator in Adamawa and Taraba, Mr. Bashir Garga, said the distribution was targeted to be distributed in the most affected areas in the seven states. He added that about 206 Turks full of assorted food items would be distributed to the communities.

Some of the areas that are beneficiaries of the food distribution are; Gombi, Hong, Maiha, Mubi South, Mubi North, Michika and Madagali Local Government Areas.

“Among the items distributed include one bag of soyabeans, millet, maize flour, two bags of semovita and masavita to each household for the duration of one month,’’ Garga said.

Responding to the kind gestures of the government, the district head of  Gombi, Alhaji Shuaibu Barde said the intervention would go along way to alleviating hardship in the affected communities.
