Internally displaced persons in the Southeast have just gotten food items worth five million Naira from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter of Bayero University Kano on Friday 16th June 2017.

Dr. Ibrahim Barde, the chairman of the ASUU chapter of Bayero University inaugurated the campaign for the food distribution in Kano, he said what they did was to assist in reducing the sufferings of the people at the various camps of IDPs in the zone.

According to him: “The intervention scheme is also meant to support them in their plight, which calls for immediate actions from different parts of the country.” He said the food items will start to be distributed immediately to the IDPs in the North East.

He said the lecturers of Bayero University were tasked by ASUU and they all contributed to helping the IDPs. He said the gesture will set the pace by encouraging other institutions in the country to do same.

Dr. Ibrahim went ahead to say: “We are just embarking on such scheme by coming to the aid of those people and we planned to make it a monthly affair of the union. “Most people misconstrued ASUU’s agenda, thinking that we only go on strike when there is a dispute between us and the government.

He explained that they are doing all they can to stop the hardship experienced in the IDPs.

Some of the food items donated include rice, millet, sugar spaghetti, Maggi, vegetable oil and palm oil.
