ICAN President Alhaji Rasak A. Jaiyeola, B.Sc, ACFE, CRISC, FCA has berated the proliferation of some Professional bodies which tend to duplicate the roles and functions of Chartered Accountants and urged its members to ignore such act.
He said this during his Keynote Address at the Investiture of Mr. Oluniyi Adebayo Odewale F.Dip, B.Sc, ACA as the 5th Chairman of ICAN Ikorodu and the Inauguration of the District’s Executive Committee held at Oriwu Club, Ikorodu, Lagos on Saturday 11th of August 2018.
The President who was ably represented by his 2nd Deputy Vice President Mrs. Comfort Olujumoke Eyitayo, mni, FCA expressed best wishes to the new Chairman, whom he believes has learnt over the years the leadership process and organisational structure of ICAN and repose in him a trust to take the district to an enviable height.
The New Chairman was described by Mr. Raheem Akingbolu (RHM) as a Professional Colleague, a man of God, a Community Leader and a man who stood his ground to achieve what seemed impossible to others until he did it.
Akingbolu who gave the citation explained how Oluniyi re-enrolled to study Accounting as an undergaduate at the then University of Ado-Ekiti (Now Ekiti State University) between 2001-2005 after graduating with a Second Class Upper Division in Science Laboratoy Technology (Microbiology Option) from the Prestigious University of Ibadan and rose to become a qualified Chartered Accountant within the space of 2009-2010.
He described the journey of the Chairman through life as a Reference of Motivation to as many who desire to pursue a dream. He said;
“…pursuing a dream is hard work, but the right words delivered at the right time-by people who’ve been there and done that-can give us just the motivation we need. The right words can rekindle our enthusiasm and re-energize. Today, the right words are here to describe Mr. Oluniyi Odewale’s journey through life”
Meanwhile, the Outgoing Chairman, Owolabi Tiwalade Williams MBA, FCA during his Valedictoy Speech thanked members of 2017-2018 Executive Committee for their support and expressed a great loss of the District at the departure of Late Mrs. Olufunke Adamson ACA who was also elected into the New Executive Committee but for fate, lost her life in the unfortunate boat mishap on her return home from work on Wednessday 25th July 2018, and prayed that God grant her eternal rest.
Owolabi eulogised the deceased’s activeness in the District, noting that within short period of her enrollment as a member of the District, she single handedly introduced over a dozen ICAN members to the District while she was just a floor member.
He also placed on record the activities of the last Executive Committee and wished the Incoming 5th District Chairman and his team a successful tenure.
The 5th Chairman Oluniyi Adebayo Odewale F.Dip, B.Sc, ACA during his acceptance speech described the occassion as a befitting testament of not only his resilient ICAN mindset, but importantly to appreciate God’s intervention and help.
Oluniyi who inaugurated his Executive Committee described the theme of his Chairmanship tenure as “Consolidate the Award-Winning Legacy”- Catch Them Young (CTY). A legacy that was initiated by the pioneer District Chairman, Rev. Samuel Disu, FCA, which aimed at selling accountancy profession to Secondary School Students, which earned the district a merit award in 2013
He further stressed that his EXCO has resolved to continue to leverage on Members’ collective ingenuity as well as the invaluable counsel by the body of Past Chairmen to further the District’s progress to date.
The Vice-Chairman Mrs. Favour Oti-Elechi, B.Sc, ACA however thanked fellow District members, professional colleagues, pressmen, friends and family for the honour accorded to ICAN Ikorodu District by their presence on the great occasion and wished them safe journey back to their different destinations.
