Mrs Yetty Williams is a mother of two children who has been married for the past 13 years to her husband. She explained what an e-village is and why it is very important for mothers, she said:

“A lot of mums nowadays make use of technology, like Google, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and so on. For us getting information from the internet is second nature but you have to be very careful that you are getting the right kind of information.

Why I say it takes an e-village to raise a child is that we are getting a lot of information from people you might not know physically but just because the person is a mother sharing similar things that I’m going through, I may listen to them more than a person who I see physically but has no similarities to me. That is where a community comes in where I know that if I have a challenge today if I reach out to a particular community of mums online, I will probably get some information that will really help me.

For me, there are many things I get information about just by asking another mother, through chats on Instagram or by reading articles and reaching out to the writer and you will be amazed that people are really happy to help you and to share their own experiences with you.”

Mrs Yetty Williams also advised mothers to get rid of guilt, she said: “When you are a 9 to 5 working mum and you get good pay, you have money to help with taking care of your family and yourself. That same mother, who is able to achieve this success at work, as a result, for example, might not be able to attend every play that her child has in school because it may coincide with a meeting in the office. Such mother may start feeling very guilty that she can’t attend the play of her child.
