Jordanian Air Force promises Nigerian Air Force New Platform

The Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) has expressed it willingness to support the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) with a new Super Puma utility aircraft to further strengthen its airpower, while additionally promising to assist the Service in the maintenance and overhaul of its other operational platforms as its contributions to the nation, in its bid to reduce and eventually eliminate militancy, terrorism, extremism and other forms of violence.

The Commander of the Royal Jordanian Air force (RJAF), Major General Yousef Al-Hnaity made this declaration while on tour of the operational fleets of the NAF, housed in the Aeronautical Engineering Technical Service Ikeja Lagos, while on a two-day visit to Headquarters Logistics Command (HQ LC), as part of his week-long working visit to Nigeria on the invitation of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar.

The Jordanian Commander said this assistance was necessary “because we have the same kind of platforms and experience the same problems and face the same level of threats”.

The delegation was also at National Air Defense Corp, the 631 Aircraft maintenance Depot, 643 Equipment Supply Depot to inspect the operational readiness of the C130 aircraft and NAF holdings respectively in the bid to further explore areas of possible collaborations.

Earlier in his brief statement at the Headquarters Logistics Command, the Jordanian Commander also expressed his readiness to collaborate with Logistics Command in the procurement of logistics and capacity building of its pilots and aircraft engineers, to effectively man equipment and platforms of the Nigerian Air Force.

According to the Jordanian Commander, “we can see many areas we can collaborate upon, we can see areas in maintenance, logistics and operation level which we can work upon and provide our experience to improve the NAF”, adding that “we also require information sharing from your side because we have similar problems and level of threats in Jordan”.

In response, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar, represented by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal IJ Yahaya expressed profound appreciation to the Jordanian Commander.

He briefed the Jordanian Air Chief about the roles and tasks of the Command which include the implementation of procurement policies as regards procurement, maintenance, distribution, sustenance and disposal of obsolete systems of the NAF. The AOC said “LC is our major port of entry, where we have the major airports, seaports, should we want to bring in anything into the NAF”. He called for increased areas of friendship with RJAF saying “we have been sending our personnel on training in Jordan and are on the verge of sending another batch”.

The AOC thanked the Jordanian delegation for its promise to aid the NAF with new technology in air warfare saying “I can see that Jordan has been driving technology, while we are just trying to drive technology, and this assistance will go a long way in the elimination of the enemies we are dealing with who have no boundaries”.

Some of the features of the Super Puma Aircraft that the Jordanian Air Chief promised to assist the NAF with is a 3000 hrs flying time capacity. It is a utility aircraft that provides services as transport, ambulance, rescue, fighter, research, agriculture and others.
The Commander, Jordanian Air Force was accompanied on the tour by his wife, Mrs Feryal Sulum.
