The youths in Lagos will soon enjoy a robust employment program that will seriously address the unemployment challenge in the state.
Lagos state government in partnership with the federal government N-power has made a commitment to embark on a multi-faceted intervention program that will alleviate the suffering of unemployed youth and women and reduce the level of poverty.
Mrs. Lola Akande, Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) said these in an Interactive Workshop organized by the State Government in collaboration with National Social Investment Office, Abuja for N- Power Volunteer Corps and State Institutional Partners at the Secretariat Alausa, Ikeja. Some of the attendants were members of the State House of Assembly and other high-ranking civil servants.
She stated that the current administration of Lagos state, has put in place lofty strategies and initiatives such as the establishment of the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, Agric Youth Employment Scheme (Agric-YES), Neighborhood Safety Corp, Cleaner Lagos Scheme, Skill Acquisition Centers and Agricultural Training programmes for female farmers amongst others.
Akande encourages the beneficiaries to be diligent and strive for excellence in their works. She added that those in the Agriculture sector should ensure they become self-reliant by owning a farm of their own before the end of the scheme.
Mr. Afolabi Imoukhuede, The Senior Assistant to the President on Job Creation and also the Leader of the N- Power Monitoring Team praised the State Government, and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for effective coordination and implementation of the scheme.
