Do you still remember when you bought your mattress? In most cases, unfortunately, we can not change mattresses as much as we would like, right?

Also, cleaning the mattress can be an impractical task for anyone who lives in a small apartment and risks breaking something when trying to get the mattress off the bed. Not to mention that, often, there is simply no way to put it in the sun.

However, even with the difficulties, we need to take some care with the mattress to eliminate dead cells, dust mites, dust and moisture that accumulate among the materials that compose it.

The trick: baking soda
This technique for cleaning the mattress is quite simple, and you can take advantage of the occasions when you change the mattress aside to apply it. Check it:

How to make
After removing the sheets, try to take the mattress to a place where you have room to move around. Ideally, you can leave it on a porch for sunbathing.

Sprinkle the baking soda over the entire surface of the mattress and let it act for 35 to 40 minutes. After that time, use the brush to rub the mattress, especially on top of the stains. Wait another 10 to 15 minutes and run the vacuum cleaner all over the surface, removing the baking soda and dirt that will adhere to it. Repeat the procedure on the other side of the mattress.

If you want, take the time to apply a few drops of essential oil and have a fragrant mattress – lavender and chamomile are good options to help you fall asleep.

How to make the mattress spin
Besides this cleaning with baking soda, there are other precautions that we should take with the mattress. One of them is the swivel, which we mentioned above, which is important to conserve the shapes of the mattress.

This technique consists in rotating the mattress in two ways: the first is to change the position of the feet and the head and the second is to place the surface that is in contact with the platform to the top.

The two swivel movements should be done alternately every three months. For example, if in January you change the position of your feet and head, in April you should change the side of the mattress that faces up. In July, you will again change your feet and head and in November you will change the side that faces up again.

Take advantage of these moments to observe the state of the platform. When the wooden slats crack or break, the mattress support becomes poor, which contributes to the wear of the part and can cause problems in the spine.

In fact, one more tip to finish: when buying a new mattress, always check that the characteristics of the model are the most appropriate for your physical constitution, avoiding back pain.
