Lion attacks: Oyo orders closure of Agodi Zoo

Oyo state government has ordered for the closure of Agodi Zoo, following the death of one of its zoo attendants, Mr. Hamzat Oyekunle who was attacked by the lion.

It was gathered that one of the lions accidentally attacked the deceased who was said to have been feeding the lion for over five years and has a very close relationship with all the animals in the zoo.

The attendant, popularly known as Baba Olorunwa, later died from injuries sustained from the incident.

Oyo state government, however, said the Lions have been evacuated pending further investigations.

According to the state government, the decision is based on the report received from the company managing the Zoo, AM & C.

The government decision was contained in a statement at the weekend by the Executive Secretary, Bureau of Investment Promotion (BIP), Mr. Yinka Fatoki who expressed shock at the unfortunate incident.

Fatoki, said that the incident was so sad “Mr. Oyekunle had fed the lion for over five years and was known to have had a very good relationship with all the animals in the zoo.”

Meanwhile, government representatives have visited the family to commiserate with them over the demise of Mr. Oyekunle.
