A Netherland aged couple residing in the city of Didam had lovingly died together having a last kiss with each other before bidding farewell to the world.
The aged couple, Nic and Trees Elderhorst in Didam, the Netherlands, have passed away in what can be described as an incredible way to die. Nic and Trees Elderhost were both 91-years-old. They have been married since 65-years ago but both suffered a declining health condition which made them opted for a rare double euthanasia.
Euthanasia is the legal termination of a very sick person’s life in order to relieve them of their suffering.
Nic and Trees had both expressed a final wish to die together.
Nic suffered a stroke about five years ago and relied on antibiotics to keep him alive. Trees cared for him as best as she could, but she too was diagnosed with dementia.
However the couple filed for euthanasia and after Trees’ diagnosis, doctors determined that both met the Euthanasia conditions.
They had their last kiss one last time before passing away, hand-in-hand on June 4, 2017.

Speaking at an interview, a daughter of the couple said, Trees did not wish to live in a nursing home in the event of Nic’s death. And as a matter of fact, a doctor had revealed that her dementia could worsen.
Double Euthanasia is hardly granted in the Netherlands since the Netherlands passed laws allowing euthanasia about 17 years ago. Since then, over 5,500 people have opted for it. Double euthanasia is however rarely granted.
Experts say it’s only a matter of coincidence that a couple would meet the conditions at the same time.
