Major Cause of Miscarriages Explained by Medical Expert
omen was explained by Dr. Titilope Ademoroti, who is a family physician at King’s Care Hospital Limited, Abuja.
Dr. Titilope Ademoroti implored women to be aware of their blood group as it has a way of leading to miscarriages if some precautions are not taken.

She explained that if a pregnant woman has a blood group that is Rhesus Factor Negative (-) and her foetus’ blood group is Rhesus Factor Positive (+), it can lead to danger for the pregnancy.
The doctor advised women to know their Rhesus status or otherwise called Rh factor. She mentioned that it is an inherited protein that is found on the surface of the Red Blood Cells.
Speaking to NAN, Doctor Ademoroti said: “If a blood cell has protein, it is said to be positive (+) but if the blood cell does not have the protein, it is negative (-).”
She added: “The problem may arise when a couple with different Rh factor gets married and start bearing kids.”
The Doctor explained that the woman with the Rh Factor that is not matching with her children may not face difficulties during her first pregnancy because the child’s blood cell has not mixed with that of the mother but the second pregnancy may be challenging.
She added: “But once the woman gets pregnant again with an Rh (+) baby, the antibodies already in the woman’s blood will begin to attack the baby’s red blood cell, thereby leading to anemia or more serious problems leading to miscarriage.”
Doctor Ademoroti said a woman whose Rh factor is different from her husband is usually given the Rhogam injection between the 28th week and 32nd week of pregnancy and also within 72 hours after giving birth.
She, however, mentioned that intending couples should do a blood screening before getting married so as to be aware of how to manage such situations.
