Man arrested for bathing lover with petrol and setting her ablaze in South Africa

A man has been arrested by the Gauteng police, South Africa for allegedly bathing his lover with petrol and setting her on fire in their shack in Matlejoane, Atteridgeville Pretoria, South Africa.

His lover, Lyzah Seroka was reported to have died from the injuries she sustained from the fire burns.  She was confirmed dead at the Kalafong Hospital on Monday.

She sustained severe injuries and it was confirmed that most of her internal organs were seriously damaged by the flames.

The deceased aged 38 had two children with her lover and the children stay with their grandparents in Sekhukhune‚ Limpopo.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Kay Makhubela, The lover who carried out the alleged act was caught in Limpopo in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Lieutenant added: “He was on the run after he allegedly set alight his girlfriend‚ aged 38-years-old‚ in an Atteridgeville informal settlement on Sunday. She later died in hospital.”

Karabo Seroka, The brother of the deceased who stays close to her said he heard her screaming at midnight last Sunday.he ran to her shack only to find her in a ball of flame. He added that he met the suspect running away as he was about entering their shack.

Karabo confirmed that it is not the first time he had rescued his sister from the blows of her lover whom she had been with since childhood.

The traumatised brother added: “I passed him by the gate and ran in to get my heavily pregnant cousin out of the burning shack. I then went back in for my sister. I got her out and tried to rip the burning clothes off her body.”

“As I carried her out‚ she kept saying: ‘Look how he has rewarded me for staying 17 years with him. Look what he’s done to me. He has taken my beauty away.”

He added that earlier that day he asked his sister’s lover why he poured oil all over their yard.

He said: “He told me he was doing it to kill the snakes around the yard,”  “I didn’t think that he was referring to my sister.”

He carried his sister from the burning shack in his arms to the main road but because the roads that led to their informal settlement was narrow and rocky, it was impossible for an ambulance to enter.

The brother added that: “At that point‚ I could feel her flesh on my arms … But she was still talking and I kept telling her that things would be okay.”

Karabo said the suspected lover called his mother to apologize and seek forgiveness for his actions but she hung up on him.
