A 28- year-old man, identified as Tunde Giwa, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly robbing and raping a trader in the Awoyaya area of Lagos State.  Man Arrested For Raping And Robbing Trader In Lagos

Giwa was said to have threatened the victim with a knife and other weapons to rob her, adding that the suspect eventually raped the woman.     Man Arrested For Raping And Robbing Trader In Lagos

According to the report gathered, It was learnt that the incident happened while she was going to a market in Oyingbo around 5 am on May 8, 2017. Man Arrested For Raping And Robbing Trader In Lagos

The victim report that the suspect and his gang members stopped her at a bus stop in Awoyaya, took turns to rape her and robbed her of N8,000 and a Techno phone.

The case was brought close to Giwa after it was reported to the police station, leading to Giwa’s arrest.

When asked about the incident, the suspect denied the allegations.

The defendant said.

“I don’t know anything about what she is saying. I live on the next street to her residence; we had a misunderstanding in the past and she threatened to deal with me.

“When she was raped, she mentioned my name to the police because of the disagreement we had. I was coming from my house when the police stopped and arrested me.’’

A police Inspector, Benedict Aigbokhan, brought the accused before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.

Giwa’s charges read in part.    Man Arrested For Raping And Robbing Trader In Lagos

“That you, Tunde Giwa and others at large, on May 8, 2017, at about 5.15am, at Awoyaya, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, while armed with a knife and other weapons, did steal one Techno phone valued at N10,000 and a cash sum of N8,600, property of a woman, thereby committing  an offence contrary to Section 296 and punishable under Section 297(1)(2)(a)(b)  of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

“That you, Tunde Giwa  and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did forcefully have carnal knowledge of the woman, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 260 and punishable under Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.’’

Giwa made a plea before the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Akokhia, but it was not taken. The presiding Magistrate ordered that he should be remanded in custody.

 

The case was further adjourned until July 27, for further hearing.
