A 45-year-old India-bound air passenger has been arrested by Sri Lankan Customs for attempting to smuggle closely, one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of gold stuffed in his rectum.

According to the reports gathered, officials got the ‘red sign’ when the 45-year-old Sri Lankan “suspiciously” gave a clue at the departure lounge of Colombo airport on Sunday, Spokesman Sunil Jayaratne revealed.

It was gathered that the gold was wrapped in black plastic sheets.

The customs have hence dispossessed the Sri Lankan of 904 grams of gold, seven yellow “biscuits” and six chains. In total, the hauls recovered from him were valued at 4.5 million rupees (equivalent of $30,000)

In Sri Lanka’s travel law, passengers are only allowed to leave the country with a reasonable amount of personal jewellery while little tax rate applies for precious metals.
