A robbery suspect identified as Chukwuma Okoro, who was arrested with three other suspects has confessed that he attempted robbery so as to raise N 300, 000 to pay the bride price over his wife.

According to him, his wife ran away from home and he decided to gather the money to pay her bride price after she decided to return back to him.

Chukwuma Okoro was one four robbery suspects that were arrested and paraded Wednesday, 11th October 2017 by the Ondo State Police Command.  The three other suspects paraded are Ezenwa Raphael, Chukwudi Oruma and Thomas Onofuapo.

Ondo state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, who paraded the suspects before newsmen, said Okoro and the other three suspects were among the armed robbers who had been terrorizing the state in recent time.

The police spokesperson said Okoro was arrested after he allegedly attacked a girl who was taking a N500,000 proceed from her master sales to a bank. He added that the girl raised alarm that attracted passersby when the suspect attempted to snatch it from her.

According to the Police spokesperson, the passersby caught the suspect and handed him over to the Police . He confirmed that the items found on Okoro included a pistol and five live carriages.

Okoro who claims to be a vegetable seller in Akure said that he decided to go into robbery so he could raise N300, 000 to pay his wife’s bride price according to the request of her family.

Okoro added: “It is my wife that pushed me into it, I have never stolen in my life, this is the first time, she ran away from my house since three weeks ago and she has been begging me to come back so I started looking for money to pay her dowry before she comes back. There is no way I can get more than N300,000 to pay her dowry, that is why I tried to rob and this is the first time I will be doing it.”
