Man stole from accident victim, bags three months imprisonment

A 25-year-old security guard identified as Musa Isah has been Arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Tuesday and sentenced, to three months imprisonment for stealing N500 from an accident victim.

The 25-year-old security guard was arraigned on a count charge of theft, contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code.

Speaking to the court on the issue, Police Prosecutor, Insp. Gunduma Ibrahim said that the convict, residing at M.I. Wushishi Estate in Minna committed the offence on July 15 at about 4 p.m.

Ibrahim said the convict went to a scene of fatal accident in Minna with the pretence of trying to rescue some of the victims but instead of rescuing the victims, the prosecutor said he parted with N500 from one of the victims.

Inspector Ibrahim said that Isah was arrested immediately at the spot of the accident and taken to a nearby police station.

Isah pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency after the charge was read to him.

Ibrahim urged the court to sentence Isah, with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code, based on his plea.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Mariam Kings, therefore, sentenced Isah to three months imprisonment with an option of paying a fine of N20, 000.
