Manchester United agree £77m asking price for Sancho, deal to be finalised soon
The England winger who has been a subject of transfer headache for the Manchester club has had his asking price by his parent club, Dortmund, agreed yesterday. Earlier this week United placed a £75m offer which was swiftly rejected with Dortmund handing United a ‘take-it-or-leave-it offer of €90m (£77m) for the 21-year-old.
A reputable German source, BILD, states that Man United have now gone back to Dortmund with an improved offer thereby meeting Dortmund’s valuation of the player that’ll see the deal concluded by week’s end.
The £77m deal would see Jordan Sancho become United’s third-most-expensive transfer ever, behind only Paul Pogba and Harry Maguire.
Dortmund has been desperate for Sancho’s future to be determined before July 23 so as to afford them time to source out replacements in the transfer market before the season begins and are also keen for the deal to be wrapped up as soon as possible.
United have long been pursuing the 21-year-old forward, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer identifying him as his No 1 priority signing that’ll bring needed fire to the United Attack line.
Personal terms on a five-year contract have already been agreed and sorted out, meaning there are only formalities left to complete before Sancho can be announced as a Manchester United player.
Sancho will be United’s first big signing of the summer and could be followed through the doors at Old Trafford by a centre-back, as the club looks at Pau Torres as a formidable partner for Harry Maguire, the report adds.
Sancho moved to Dortmund in 2017 from Manchester City in an £8m deal as a 17-year-old.
He has scored 50 goals and registered 64 assists in 137 Dortmund appearances since, including 16 goals and 20 assists last season in a difficult campaign for the team in 2020-21.
