A housewife, Mrs. Halima Yekini, has approached an Agege Customary Court in Lagos State, seeking the dissolution of her eight- year -old marriage over allegations of abandonment and lack of care.

Mrs Yekimi told the court that she has been married to her husband for eight years but that they have only lived together as a couple for five years.
According to Halima Yekini, “We got married the Islamic way and he assured me of his love and loyalty. We have three children but sadly, I have been the one taking care of all their needs.
“Two years ago, he told me that he was relocating to Ilorin and that I should go with him.
“I refused because he did not plan to rent an apartment but rather insisted that I stay with his parents. I refused because his mother and I are not in good terms.
“The issue of relocating caused a rift between us but he was still sending money for our upkeep. I was reliably informed that he rented a self-contain apartment for his new wife somewhere at Alagbado while my children and I are staying in a room here in Agege.
“I confronted him and he told me he had moved on with his life since I refused to go to Ilorin with him. He stopped sending money for the children’s upkeep and even changed his line. I had to set aside my pride and went to Ilorin to report him to his parents.
“As expected, his mother took sides with him. His father and uncles told me to be patient and endure while they promised to help set up a business for me.
“It’s been two years now, and I have not heard from him or his family members. I have tried to get in touch with them, but they always give me one excuse or the other. I am tired of this non-existing marriage and I want to move on with my life,” she said.
