Fatimo Akinwunmi has prayed an Agege Customary Court to end her four-year-old marriage to her husband, Sadiq Akinwumi.
The 25-year-old woman and mother of one told the court there was no love in the marriage but constant battery from the husband.
Fatimo, a 200 level undergraduate of National Teachers Institute, Kaduna, and an indigene of Oyo State, resides at Fadahunsi St., Okeira, Aguda-Ogba area in Lagos State.
She told the court that her husband was allegedly no longer in support of her quest for higher education, as he promised her when they got married in the year 2014. constantly beat her and no longer cared for her and child.
The woman also alleged that her husband was irresponsible and often demanded sex from her with a view to having another child.
“All he does is to sleep with me, without any form of protection from him, and wanting me to conceive another child, while he remained jobless.” she said.
Fatimo also added that her husband refused to be responsible, by leaving her and child to the care of his own parents.
The woman also added that her father-in-law always took sides with her husband:
“The father-in-law demanded that as his wife I should have another child for his son. He wondered why l should have just one child for him” she said.
Fatimo pleaded with the court to separate them, claiming that she was no longer interested in the marriage.
“I am no longer interested in the union. The marriage has broken down irretrievably, as there has been no love and peace since the inception of the marriage” the wife said in court.
However, her man, Sadiq was absent in court and had no representation at the court proceedings.
The court judge, Philip Williams, however, adjourned the case till Sept. 14, 2017, for further hearing.
