The Vice Principal, Mohammed Mohammed who impregnated a 16 year old JSS2 student, Faith Galadima of Government Secondary School, Tunga, Minna, has been suspended by Niger State Ministry of Education.

Faith Galadima was delivered of a bouncing baby boy from the pregnancy. She had earlier cried out for help as she explained that she didn’t get any help from the vice principal all through her pregnancy.

She said: “I did not receive any assistance from the V.P despite the agreement between him and the child rights agency.

“I am not happy that I am now a mother at this tender age, I will not allow the incident to shatter my dream of becoming a nurse. I still want to further my studies because I want to be a be a nurse in the future.”

After her appeal for help, the Niger State Ministry of Education has announced the suspension of the vice principal who got her pregnant, Mohammed Mohammed.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Yahaya Garba, said on Wednesday, the 8th of November, 2017 that 50% of the Vice Principal’s salary has been withheld by the government and he has also been ordered to take care of Faith and their little son for three years.

Garba said:

“As a ministry, we did not want to make any public announcement of our stand, but because the issue has gone viral, we have to come out to state our stand.

I will like to say that the Niger State Ministry of Education is not in any way shielding Mallam Mohammed. When the case got to us, we directed the state secondary education board to set up a seven-man committee.

Based on the recommendation of the committee and the acceptance by Mohammed that he committed the crime, the Ministry of Education has placed him on half salary.

We have also mandated Mohammed to take up the upkeep of both mother and child for three years. Mohammed has not been promoted or posted anywhere. He is still serving his suspension. The ministry will finally decide on his case after the court has concluded deliberation on it.”

The permanent secretary mentioned that they are willing to pay the for the required DNA test in order to confirm the case in court and also to assist police investigation.
