Nigeria 0-1 Czech Republic (Pre-World Cup friendly) See How It went Down
The match between Czech Republic and Nigeria the third official meeting between both countries started exactly at 2pm at the Rudolf Tonn Stadium. The Super Eagles in their last three matches were yet to win a game after they narrowly won against Poland. The Eagles lost to Serbia and England, but pulled a draw against Congo DR.
The first half wasn’t Not too impressive for the Eagles as the team conceded too many set pieces, especially corner kicks, from which the Czech Republic took the lead on 26 minutes through Tomas Kalas, who pounced on a rebound off Francis Uzoho. The eagles had lots of work to do in the second half they needed urgency in the offensive third to get back into the game.
Going into the second half, Nigeria’s World Cup preparations looked doubtful as they strugggled to get back into the game.
Gernot Rohr’s men could have taken some lessons away from their 2-1 defeat to England on Saturday, but that wasnt the case as four days later, Tomas Kalas’ first-half opener secured a slender victory for the Czechs, who were thrashed 4-0 by Australia on Friday.
At no point in the first half did Nigeria appear to be in the ascendancy and, shortly after surviving a scare, they deservedly found themselves trailing just 25 minutes into the game.
The closest Nigeria came to levelling before the break was Wilfred Ndidi’s 30-yard drive, which was brilliantly tipped around the post by Tomas Vaclik in the Czech goal.
Although a downpour briefly interrupted play in the early stages of the second half, Nigeria played with more intent after half-time and went close in the 63rd minute, as John Obi Mikel saw a header saved by Vaclik.
Despite Nigeria’s efforts and attack-minded approach, a late equalizer never arrived, consigning them to a second successive defeat in their World Cup preparation games.
We hope that the eagles improve as they go into the tournament proper, the only bright and beautiful thing about the eagles at the moment is their jerseys!
