Nigerian Air force personnel (NAF) were on Saturday, November 18, 2017, deployed across Ladipo, Mafoluku, Bisam and Shogunle environs of the Oshodi-Lagos metropolis for environmental sanitation to the delight of residents over the hand of comradeship.

Saheed Ajala, a resident at number 24 Abolaji Street, Mafoluku Oshodi who spoke in Yoruba said when he first saw the personnel on camouflage; he thought they came for war, but “I was glad when I saw that they came to help us clean our environment”. He urged the requisite authority to invite residents when next they come as they are willing to join forces with them in whatever task they set to carry out.

Mama Ejime, a bean cake (Akara) seller on Majekodunmi Street Shogunle
said “when they come, they clean our gutter, before they come pack am.
We happy, our body comes free well, well”.

Another resident, Idris Hassan of number 10 Aberuagba said the proximity of the base remains a source of blessing to the host communities because of the quick the response they receive from the Air force, who are always at hand to calm situations of fracas, before the arrival of other security operatives. He urged the NAF to help the communities with infrastructures such as water, light etc

SAEB Base Commander, Air Commodore MO Olatunji who was represented by Wing Commander Alfred Ogbonnaya on the quarterly Civil-Military Cooperation exercise said community engagement is a crucial departmental activity in the NAF, which is projected to enhance the relationship between the military and civilians and encourage their
cooperation.

He said “civilians see the military as unapproachable. We need to interact with them in a jovial manner to show them that we are part of them.” adding that this will reinforce their confidence and trust and predisposed the mutual understanding, cooperation and support necessary for Nigerian armed Forces to succeed on national security operations.

About 200 personnel of the Nigerian Air Force officers and men, dispatched into groups for convenience, were on hand for the task.
