Nigerian lady raises alarm over adulterated groundnut oil

A lady named Layo Odu with the Twitter handle @Fundyola has taken to Twitter to raise alarm over local groundnut oil sellers adding engine oil to groundnut oil in order to make more profit.

She told all Nigerians to be aware and make sure they bought the groundnut oil in sealed bottles instead of the ones bought in various measurements in the local open markets because of the high risk of buying the ones adulterated with engine oil.

According to her, it was when she wanted to use the oil that she perceived some funny smell.

Here is her tweet,

“Nigerians when are we going to stop harming one another all in the name of profit…..pls my ppl don’t buy local groundnut oil again oooo.

I bought one last night only to fry plantain with it then I was perceiving odd smell….You won’t believe they mixed it with engine oil.

At first, I thought it was petrol then later got to realise it was engine oil after asking lots of ppl to perceive cos I didn’t believe it.

The groundnut oil wasn’t sleeky as it ought to be instead was dropping like water. Please beware of fake groundnut oil; our heart matters a lot.

Please, local groundnut oil is not advisable. Please, buy sealed oil our heart matters a lot..I wish the government can scrutinise those selling it.

It looks like normal groundnut oil it that has been mixed with Engine Oil”
