Ondo first lady takes breast cancer awareness to IMO state
As part of her effort and commitment fighting breast cancer to a stand still in Nigeria,
The first lady of Ondo state, who is also the founder of Breast cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has emphasized the need to raise comprehensive and sustained breast cancer awareness across Nigeria.
She said this in an interactive forum with some BRECAN volunteers held at Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Mrs Akeredolu said the rate at which women die of breast cancer is alarming.
“The level of Breast cancer awareness here is very low, you should be the foot soldiers that will take this message to all the nooks and cranny of the 27 LGAs of the State, we don’t want our women to die any more of breast cancer”
According to Mrs Akeredolu, women are dying of cancer because nobody is educating them on the for them to have regular breast check up for lumps, discharges from nipples and other signs of breast cancer.
Akeredolu said breast cancer is curable if only women do the right thing at the right time, which is going to hospital when they notice any lump in their breast.
She encouraged the Imo based volunteers to take advantage of the “pink October” a month set aside by the international community to raise awareness.
