Ondo State Government stops payment of WAEC Exam fee for students

Ondo State Government has announced the decision to stop the payment of examination fees for students sitting for the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations(WASSCE) as from May 2018.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Femi Agagu on the 29th of November 2017.

The Commissioner spoke to newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting that was held in Akure.

The students sitting for the exam are now going to pay the fees themselves as Agagu who addressed the press alongside Yemi Olowolabi, the Commissioner for Communication said a lot of considerations before making the decision.

They mentioned that a lot of studies was done on the recommendations of the Education Summit which was organized by the Ondo State Government in 2016.

The Education Commissioner said the Council agreed that the State Government would continue to fund education at the primary and post-primary levels and that an Education Trust Fund would be set up to gather funds for the state education sector.

Mr Agagu said the state citizens would be encouraged to pay an amount of N1,000 into the trust fund which will be managed by a committee that comprises of prominent sons and daughters of Ondo State.
