Reports gathered that 900,000 children will be immunized against polio in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja within the next five days.

This was disclosed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Mathew Ashikeni made this known during the inauguration of the exercise on Friday in Abuja.

According to him, FCT was also among the high-risk states as far as polio virus was concerned.

“1,166 vaccinators would partake in the exercise along with 300 special teams and 65 supervisors…48 monitors would be participating beside 206 supervisors to be deployed by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.”

He said that community and religious leaders had been sensitising their followers to the importance of immunisation so as to enhance the acceptability of the vaccines.

However, he urged the vaccinators to show commitment by ensuring that no child misses out from the exercise, while he lauded the supports being given by development partners in the collective effort to eradicate polio from the territory and the country in general.
