Policeman dies after jumping in well over transfer to Borno

Mr Donatus Oyibe, a policeman serving under the Ebonyi state police command have been reported to have died after allegedly jumping in well over his transfer to Borno state.

The sad incidence occurred in Abakaliki the Ebonyi state capital at Ukwuakpu axis. According to Daily Sun, the policeman committed suicide over his transfer.

According to the report from sources, Oyibe went to the well to fetch water but was not seen afterwards. He is a native of Ndegu Ishieke in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

Sources close to the deceased confirmed that he was not happy with his recent transfer to Borno state which came through a posting letter he received on the 28th of August.

According to the source believe this could be the cause of him committing suicide.

The deceased’s daughter, Ukamaka, spoke about the tragic incident that took her father’s life. She narrated that her father went to the well to fetch water but was seen for hours.

She explained that there was a search for him but only his bucket of water was seen.

She added:  “He went to fetch water from our well on Sunday night but could not come back after some time that created suspicion and we started looking for him. I went to the well and saw his bucket. When I looked inside the well, I discovered that he has died.”

Daily Sun contacted Loveth Ogah, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Loveth Ogah, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and she said she was not aware of the incident but promised to get back to the reporter.
