Introduction: Purpose Is Not Hidden It Is Ignored
Many Christian young adults are praying for purpose while ignoring responsibility.
They fast.
They attend programs.
They listen to sermons.
Yet they avoid:
Service
- Growth
- Discipline
- Accountability
Purpose is not revealed to spectators. It

Step 1: Purpose Is Not a Calling
It Is a Problem You Are Sent to Solve
“I’m called to ministry ”What kind of ministry? To whom? For what problem?
A young lady loves praying and encouraging people. She assumes her purpose is to be a pastor.
But she notices something consistent:People always open up to her emotionally, She understands pain and trauma,She listens patiently
Her purpose may not be the pulpit it may be pastoral care, counseling, or healing ministry.
Purpose is not what sounds spiritual; it is what actually meets needs.
Step 2: God Uses Your Natural Design Not Just Spiritual Gifts
Many Christian young adults think God will ignore their personality and redesign them for purpose.
That is not how God works.
God uses Your temperament,Your background, Your experiences,Even your pain.
Let’s take for example a young man grew up in a rough neighborhood and understands street culture. He feels comfortable talking to young boys others are afraid of.That is not coincidence. That is assignment, God is unlikely to send him to a silent monastery. He is more likely sent to youth mentorship, outreach, or reform work.Your life story is a clue, not a mistake.
Step 3: Stop Waiting for a “Big Call” Start With Small Obedience
Most Christian young adults are waiting for:
- A prophecy
- A dream
- A dramatic encounter
But God is waiting for obedience.
Real-Life Example
A brother wants to be a preacher but:
He comes late to church
He avoids unit responsibilities
- He doesn’t prepare when given opportunities
Purpose is not hidden character is missing.
If you are not faithful with:
Leading prayers
Teaching children
Media or protocol duties
You are not ready for a microphone.
God promotes obedience, not ambition.
Step 4: Purpose Is Clarified Through Service
You don’t discover purpose by sitting down; you discover it by serving.
Service exposes:
What drains you
- What energizes you
- What you do well
- What you hate doing
Example
A sister joins the choir thinking she loves singing. After months, she realizes:
Singing drains her
Organizing rehearsals excites her
Helping people improve gives her joy
Her purpose expression may be administration or leadership, not singing.
Service helps you sort fantasy from reality.
Step 5: Anointing Without Skill Will Humiliate You
Prayer does not replace preparation. Many Christian young adults are spiritual but incompetent.God’s work deserves excellence.
Real-Life Example
A young man is passionate about teaching the Word, but:
He doesn’t study
He can’t communicate clearly
He avoids feedback
The anointing may open the door, but poor skill will close it quickly.
If your purpose involves:
Teaching → learn structure and communication
Music → train your voice or instrument
Leadership → learn people management
God is glorified through excellence, not noise.
Step 6: Discipline Is the Proof That Purpose Is Real
Purpose without discipline is just talk.
You cannot:
Sleep carelessly
Live anyhow
Waste time
Ignore growth
And expect destiny to respond.
For Example
Two brothers feel called to ministry. One is disciplined, consistent, teachable. The other is gifted but lazy. After years, only one is fruitful.
God backs discipline, not excitement.
