President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday has congratulated Nigerian football star, Asisat Oshoala, for winning the CAF-Aiteo Women’s African Football Player of the Year.
The president in a statement conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina in Abuja, congratulated the Falcon’s team member and all football lovers for the most deserved honour.
According to him, Oshoala’s achievement will naturally translate into more responsibilities for exploits on the football field, and her country.
The President celebrated the strength, dexterity and focus Oshoala deployed in making this dream a reality right from a young age.
“Working really hard from an early age to represent Nigeria in international tournaments before she was 20 years, and always showcasing her skills in her clubs.’’
The president believed that the footballer’s many achievements and awards which included winning the CAF award for the third time, “at such age clearly demonstrates that she always rises to the occasion as a professional, and deserves continental recognitions.’’
You will recall that Oshoala 23, on Thursday had superceded Cameroonian, Gabrielle Aboudi and Chrestina Kgatlana of South Africa at an event organised by the CAF in Accra, Ghana.
Oshoala who could believe she is winning the award for the third time cried while telling her story of how she was mocked, after she left Arsenal ladies for Chinese club, Dalian Quanjian F.C.
