“I really love to believe there is a heaven past the sky. So long dad” – Seyi Makinde remembers Dad

The Oyo state governorship candidate running on the flagship of the Social democratic party (SDP) has remembered his late father with an emotional quote and took it up to himself to offer him the best gift he could offer after his death.

The Oyo born philanthropist and politician Seyi Makinde has gone to the spot where his father’s remains were laid to place some wreath for him and did so with a caption some days ago, which reads.

“I really love to believe there is a heaven past the sky. So long dad”

The memorable but touching message was pieced together a few days ago by the Managing Director of Makon Group and also flagbearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Oyo State governorship election.

While he did this, the politician had invited his friends and supporters to the St Paul’s Cathedral Cemetary in Ibadan where he laid a wreath and recounted the experience of losing his father, Pa Olatunbosun Makinde some five years ago.

In an emotion laden voice, the philanthropist, who heads the ‘Omi Titun’ Movement described his late father as his mentor, guiding light and pillar that supported him while he also urged those present to join him in prayers for him.

Meanwhile, in 2007, Seyi Makinde contested for the Oyo South Senatorial seat under the platform of the  All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) but lost to the race to People’s Democratic Party candidate,  Kamoru Adedibu.

Nevertheless, he remained unshaken by his first failed attempt and in 2010; under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, he aspired for the Oyo South 2011 Senatorial seat but lost again at the primary to the incumbent Oyo South Senator.

In 2014, rather than offer himself for the senatorial post again, Makinde aimed for the Oyo State 2015 governorship ticket under the platform of People’s Democratic Party, PDP. In December 2014, upon the conclusion of the party’s primary election, he was denied the governorship nomination ticket.

And now in 2017, the race for the governorship is on under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
