After Penny Mordaunt withdraws from the race, Rishi Sunak becomes the next prime minister of the United Kingdom.

Following Penny Mordaunt’s abrupt withdrawal from the campaign for the Conservative leadership, Rishi Sunak will take over as the next prime minister of the United Kingdom.

Less than two months after losing his last election, the former chancellor will enter Downing Street after being chosen by MPs to succeed Liz Truss

On Monday, October 24, the head of the 1922 Committee of Conservative parliamentarians named Rishi Sunak the new leader of the British Conservative Party, making him the nation’s next prime minister.

The criteria for choosing and replacing the party’s leader are established by the committee.

Sunak has Mordaunt’s “full support” as she withdraws from the race, according to their rival.

Sunak easily crossed the finish line while Mordaunt struggled to secure enough support from MPs to qualify for the final vote in the leadership contest.

After failing to secure the needed 100 nominations from Conservative MPs by the 2 pm deadline, Ms Mordaunt withdrew from the race at the last minute.

As of Monday morning, the Commons leader had only 25 public supporters, but a source from her campaign team stated she had up to 90 nominations and wouldn’t be quitting the race.

“This is a historic move that again demonstrates our party’s skill and diversity. I’m behind Rishi 100 percent,” Mordaunt tweeted.

With his return, Mr Sunak will be the first Hindu, the first Asian, and, at 42, the youngest prime minister in more than 200 years to serve as leader of the United Kingdom.

Despite his accomplishments, Sunak still encounters opposition from members of the ruling Conservative Party.

They hold him responsible for Johnson’s ouster and worry that he lacks the necessary skills to prevail in elections.

He will undoubtedly be portrayed by the opposing Labour Party as a member of the ultra-wealthy elite who is out of touch with the pressures that millions of Britons are facing as Britain is on the verge of entering a recession as a result of the rising cost of food and energy.
